Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan, 78
Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan, widow of the late George Jordan, died at the residence of her son, Joseph Jordan in Hickory township Monday, aged 78 years. Mrs. Jordan, who was the mother-in-law of Sheriff J. W. Waddington, was taken ill with a severe cold while visiting at the Waddington home a couple of months ago. Her advanced years were against her recovery and she had been slowly getting worse ever since. About the time that Sheriff Waddington came to New Castle she was removed to the home of her son, where she remained till the time of her death. Mrs. Jordan was one of the pioneer residents of the eastern part of the county and was a woman with a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She was a member of the Rich Hill Presbyterian church, and a consistent christian. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. William Jordan, Hickory township; George Jordan, Harlansburg; James Jordan, Grove City; Joseph Jordan, Washington township; Mrs. Burns Fisher, Hickory township; Mrs. Thomas Patterson, Eastbrook, and Mrs. J. W. Waddington of this city. One brother, James Dunivan, of Oregon, and one sister, Mrs. Ezekiel Nelson of Shenango township, survive. The funeral will take place Wednesday at 11 o’clock from the Rich Hill church.

William Walton, 71
William “Bill” Walton, 71, of St. Cloud, Fla., formerly of Volant, peacefully passed away the afternoon of Friday, March 20, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by family. He was born Feb. 24, 1944, in New Castle to Ila Margaret Hesselgesser Walton and the late Aubrey M. Walton. Bill attended Laurel Junior/Senior High School. In 1961, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. He excelled as a sharpshooter and automobile maintenance. Then, he returned to his family dairy farm in Volant until he retired in 1998, and moved to St. Cloud. He also had a lawn care service for many years. The last three summers, Bill spent in Volant caring for his mother, spending time with his children and restoring Allis Chalmers tractors. Bill was a former member of the American Legion Post 80 in St. Cloud, where he held many offices. He was an avid participant in many tractor pulls in Pennsylvania, a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and NASCAR. He was Presbyterian. Survivors include his mother, Ila Margaret Walton of Volant; his brother, David Walton of St. Cloud; three daughters, Jeanette and Mark Hamilton of Lubbock, Texas, Brenda and John “BJ” Thomas of Volant and Cheryl and Ed Wenzel of Marathon, Fla.; his granddaughters, Amanda, Ariel and Angela Hamilton of Lubbock; and many cousins and longtime friends. In addition to his father, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Robert M. Walton. A memorial service will be held in Volant at a later date which will be announced.

Kenneth W. Boyles, 92
Kenneth W. Boyles, 92, of New Castle passed away on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at his winter home in Estero, Fla.
He was born on October 14, 1923 in New Castle, a son of the late Howard and Hazel (Michael) Boyles. He was baptized at Rich Hill Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Eastbrook High School in 1941 and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Virginia Barron on November 24, 1944.
Kenneth was a retired dairy farmer and a rural letter carrier. He had been a member of the Lions Club, the Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Faith Country Chapel and the Wilson Bible Class for many years.
He enjoyed spending time pitching horseshoes and playing shuffleboard. He competed in many senior games both at the state and national level, winning numerous medals.
He will be remembered for his strong Christian faith, his honesty, integrity, unique sense of humor and his great love of pies.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Ele) Baxter; five daughters, Karen Ford of Midlothian Texas, Claudia (Lloyd) Pickell of Manheim, Pa., Megan Lane of Seattle, Ginny Boyles of New Castle and Wendy (William) Wojcik of New Castle; six granddaughters, Lisa Ward, Julie Ollar, Rachel Albin, Kristy Carrington, Amy Johnson and Katie Cameron; two grandsons, Christopher Wojcik and Mathew Wojcik; 15 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ralph E. Boyles of Carpentersville, Ill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Virginia Barron; his second wife, Barbara Scarnati; his sister, Ruth Hall; and his son-in-law, Glenn Randle Ford.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m Thursday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.

Betty Lou “Betsy” Butia, 71
Betty Lou “Betsy” Butia, age 71, of Butler, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.
Born January 17, 1945 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Welker) Butia.
Betsy was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She was under the care of Community Care Connections for 28 years, where she was surrounded by compassionate and loving caretakers and staff. She enjoyed the comfort of living in a normal family setting. She loved going to the “Go Center” for her daily social activities, where she made many friends.
The family would like to thank all of her caretakers for giving Betsy as much of a normal life as they could possibly imagine. Caretakers are definitely “God’s Angels,” who were put on this earth to care for the less fortunate. Their outpouring of love is endless.
Betsy leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved siblings, Patricia Rice of Portersville, Marge (Lawrence) Feevey of Slippery Rock, Sharron (Donald) Lutz of Harmony, Terry (Jackie) Butia of Evans City, and Sandra Malone of Harmony; 41 nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law, Bob Guillard, and her sister-in-law, Norma Butia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Darrell Butia; one sister, Doris Guillard, and her brothers-in-law, Bill Rice and Bill Malone.

Francis "Frank" Albert Yavorsky, Jr., 70 of Volant, Washington Township passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born in Sharon on Feb. 12, 1946, to Francis "Frank" Albert Yavorsky Sr., and Rose Trebus Yavorsky.
He married Karna Louise McConnell on July 19, 1969.
He graduated from Hickory High School in Hermitage in 1964.
Frank enjoyed auto racing, hunting, riding motorcycles and camping.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Frank is survived by his wife, Karna, at home; two daughters, Crystal (Pat) Hart of Volant and Samantha (Jeremy) Fredell of Powell, Ohio; a son, Lance (Cheryl) Yavorsky of Slippery Rock; his mother, Rose Adams of New Wilmington; four sisters, Rosemary Totten of New Castle, Sandra (Howard) Mellott of West Middlesex, Florence Godsave of Sharpsville and Susan (Mike) Hume of Montesano, Washington; two brothers, Steven (Junita) Yavorsky of Manchester, Ohio, and Thomas (Pamela) Yavorsky of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Barbara Yavorsky of Sharpsville; three granddaughters, Libby Hart and Charon and Mariana Fredell; and two stepgranddaughters, Brittany Cardenas and Nina Osborne.

Born on Aug. 7, 1935, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late G. Lester and Norma Patterson Dicks.
In 1951, she married her beloved husband, William Emery, and the two of them spent 41 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 1992.
Mildred had worked as a machine operator for Nepco.
She was a member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church.
Mildred enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, gardening and playing bingo, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Mildred is survived by her brothers, Raymond Dicks and his wife, Martha, of Ellwood City, William Dicks and his wife, Pat, of Scott Township and Robert Dicks and his wife, Cookie, of Portersville; her grandchildren, Brandy Emery and her husband, Link Hill, and Amanda Emery and her husband, James Stewart; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Emery; and her sisters, Opal Stitt and Jean Stewart.

David Lyle Latimer, 77, of Wynfield Lane, New Wilmington, died on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Overlook Medical Clinic, New Wilmington.

Mr. Latimer married the former Beverly Ann Grassell on Feb. 23, 1991. She survives at the residence.
He was a self-employed contractor and a former member of the Leesburg Presbyterian Church.
He was a graduate of Wilmington High School and was a member of the Lodge of the Craft in New Castle.
David served his county in the Army.
In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by three sons, Bryan D. (Pam) Latimer of Santee, California, Douglas W. (Bobbilyn) Latimer of Volant and Bradley T. (Sheri) Latimer of Mercer; a sister, Joyce (Roger) Powers of Maryland; a brother, Thomas (Claudia) Latimer of Washington state; two stepdaughters, Lori Steller and Linda (Bill) Kaufman; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joyce McConnell, in 1990; an infant son, Donald; and a sister, Patricia Davidson.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. August Hurst of Lebanon Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Interment will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery, Volant.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Donald W. Strobel, whom she married on Nov. 25, 1992.
A 1980 graduate of Laurel High School, Jill worked as a clerk for Axe's Meat Market for four years. She was a receptionist for Butler Refrigerated Meats for 18 years, until her retirement in 2003.
Among her many interests, Jill enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
In addition to her father, who lives in New Castle, and her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Jeff R. (Sue) Taylor and Jay L. Taylor of New Castle; four nephews; two nieces; and a great-niece.

Robert Donald Taylor, 83, of Hickory Township passed away unexpectedly the afternoon of Saturday, April 14, 2018, at his residence.
Born Oct. 10, 1934, in New Castle, he was a son of Ernest S. and Mary Wilson Taylor.
He was preceded in death on Feb. 22, 2004, by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Thompson Taylor.
Bob was a 1952 graduate of New Castle High School.
He was a plumber with the Plumbers Local 47 until his retirement.
Among his many interests, Bob enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Born May 13, 1940, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Mary F. Emery.
She married John R. Drew Sr. on Aug. 17, 1968. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2000.
Mary graduated from Laurel High School and then went onto earn her early childhood development degree from Valley Forge Christian College.
Over the years, Mary worked as a parks caregiver, preschool teacher and also worked in a daycare.
Mary enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, volunteering, going to church, Bible study and going to yard sales.
She was a member of First Assembly of God.
What gave Mary the most joy in life was spending time with her dogs and cats, her family, but especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by a son, John R. Drew Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of New Castle; two brothers, Kenneth (Arlene) Emery of Mercer and Alvin Emery of New Castle; and three grandchildren, Brady Shore and Shyllo and Wyatt Drew.

Joseph William Fennick of Eastbrook Road, New Castle passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at his residence. He was 90 years old. He was born in Plain Grove, Lawrence County, on July 8, 1927, to the late Jonathan and Lila Hedglin Fennick. He married Marian Booher on July 16, 1949.
Joe was a member of the Rich Hill Presbyterian Church and attended Eastbrook Presbyterian Church and the Chapel by the Sea in Florida. He was a member of the Mahoning F & AM Lodge # 243 and the New Castle Consistory. As an active member, he helped raise money for the Children's Dyslexia Centers. He served his country in the Merchant Marines. Joe retired as a partner of A&F Deliveries in New Castle.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Fennick, of the residence and a son, Ronald (Kim) Fennick of Hartsville, S.C. and daughters, Marlene Seeger of Rochester, Janice (Scott) Royer of Ephrata, and Judy (Doug) Knueven of Beaver; four sisters, Marian Patterson of Grove City, Wilda Hogg of Sun City, Az. Erla Swardell of Stockbridge, Ga., Marilyn Shaffer of Sandy Lane; five brothers, Ben Fennick of New Bremen, Ohio, Wayne (Ethel) Fennick, Glenn (Lynne) Fennick, Gary (Kathy) Fennick, all from New Castle and James (Maydelle) from Ramsey, Minn. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren complete the family.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Seeger.

Betty M. Kerr, 92, formerly of Eastbrook-Neshannock Falls Road, died Monday, June 25, 2018, at Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare, New Wilmington.
She was born in New Castle on Nov. 7, 1925, to the late Martin and Eva Main Booher.
She married George G. Kerr on Nov. 20, 1945, who preceded her in death on Sept 2, 1997.
She was a lifelong member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church and a member of the Miller Missionary Society.
She passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren. She taught piano lessons in her home and served as organist for area churches. She enjoyed reading and was a volunteer with the Jameson Junior Guild.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley L. Kerr of Butler, Joyce E. (Mike) Loudon of Lakeland, Florida, and and Marsha A. Kerr of Greensboro, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Andrew (Anne) Loudon, Amanda (Eddy) Rodell and Nathan (Stephanie) Loudon; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Booher; and a sister, Kathryne (George) Pontius.

June was born on September 13, 1930, in New Castle, PA, where she lived for 88 of her nearly 90 years, to the late George Lee and Elizabeth Houston Thompson. She married Ernest Carr in 1950, and he preceded her to glory in 2011. Her three brothers, Dick, Bob, and Don Thompson preceded her in death as well.
She graduated from New Castle High School in 1947 and worked as a secretary.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Carr (Lew) Zellmann, and her beloved grandson, Andy, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends. They will long remember her lively wit, kindness, artistic talents, and love for Jesus.

Susan Marie McConnell, 70, of Carter Road, Volant, passed away at her residence on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.
She was born in New Castle on Oct. 18, 1950, to the late Joseph J. and Sophie Boron Kapraly.
Susan earned her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
She was a member of the Believers Church in Warren, Ohio.
She married Jeffrey Wayne McConnell on Feb. 15, 2008.
Susan dedicated her career to serving the most vulnerable as a therapist in community and hospital settings. In 2011, as a life-long dream, she opened her own private practice in her beloved town of New Wilmington.
Susan was fierce and passionate in providing exceptional care to children and families, joining others in finding their voice and path toward healing, hope and renewed joy.
In addition to her husband, Jeff, she is survived by two daughters, Tami Moore of New Wilmington and Laurie Conti of West Middlesex; two grandchildren, Colin Conti and Anna Sophia Conti; one stepson, Brian (Carolyn) McConnell; one stepdaughter, Julie (Brad) McConnell; and four stepgrandchildren, Clayton and Sara McConnell, and Matthew and Nash Salmon.
There will be a private family service at the Smith Funeral Home in New Wilmington with Pastor Joseph Cameneti and Gina officiating.

Darlene Anne Lewis
Darlene Anne Lewis of state Route 168, Volant, passed away peacefully at her home following a short illness.
Darlene was 80.
She was born in New Castle on July 3, 1943, to the late Willis and Gladys Sonntag Shalenberger. Darlene graduated from Wilmington High School, class of 1961.
She married Robert Jackson Lewis on June 23, 1961. He preceded her in death.
Darlene was an active member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist for many years.
She loved sewing, crafts, baking and making quilts, rugs and afghans.
Sadie, her dog, was special to her.
Darlene enjoyed helping the Volant Fire Department Auxiliary with its dinners and events.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Jackson Lewis of New Castle and Robert W. (Sabrina) Lewis of Volant; two granddaughters, Amanda (Nathaniel) Smith and Lindsay Stephens; and a brother-in-law Tom (Dottie) Lewis of Volant.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Vaunie Lewis and brother-in-law Donald Lewis.
The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Smith Funeral Home of Leesburg at 1778 Perry Highway, Volant.
Visitation will continue 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, until the 11 a.m. service at the funeral home.
Pastor Rebecca Rosengarth will officiate. Interment will follow at Rich Hill Cemetery.

A graduate of Laurel High School, Lori was self employed as a hairdresser.
Among her many interests, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and crafts.
Most importantly she loved her grandchildren and spending time with them.
She was a member of Calvary Independent Church.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel Carbone; her father, Terry (May) McClelland; two sons, Rob (Angela) Vogan of Pickerington, Ohio, and Richard Vogan of New Castle; and four grandchildren, Jacob, Camden, Evelyn and Sophie.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Randall McClelland.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the funeral home with the Rev. Chuck Gavroy and Pastor Parker Stilly officiating.

She was born Oct. 6, 1930, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to the late Everett G. and Martha Graham Young.
She married Donald Gene Douglas in 1949, and he preceded her in death in December 2000.
Donna is survived by two daughters, Linda (John) Starr of Volant, Pennsylvania, and Cindy Kendall of Slippery Rock; and a son, James (Jean) Douglas of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania; one sister, Katherine Bobosky; and three brothers, Gerald, William and Joseph Young.
Donna was a homemaker and loved her family.

Emery of Mercer; two sisters, Sally (Thomas) Burrows of Portersville and Linda (Ronald) Fleeger of Morgantown, West Virginia; two brothers, Howard Mickley Jr. of Plain Grove and Robert (Marlene) Mickley of Springfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Andrew, Dakota, Chad and Kristy.

He married Reba F. Wetzel on July 26, 1948, and they were married 66 years until her death on May 17, 2015.
Bill was a crane operator for Sharon Steel and Mesta, worked with his son at Allen's Disposal and retired from Allen's Excavating.
He was a member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura McConahy, and a son, William S. (Cynthia) Allen, both of Volant, Pennsylvania; six grandchildre; and six great-grandchildren.
