Ronald Leroy Myers, 67 Ronald Leroy Myers, 67, of 574 Gerber Road, Volant, died Friday morning, July 23, 2010, in his home. Ron was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Fertigs, Venango County, and was the son of the late Clarence Frank Myers and Margaret Marie Burwell Myers. He married Betty Jean Leonhardt on May 27, 1963. She survives at the residence. He retired in 2004 as a contract home delivery representative of oil products with Agway. He loved gardening, fishing and hunting and he liked cooking and baking cookies for his grandchildren. He often made pies for his neighbors and was a member of the Rich Hill Cemetery Association. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. In prior years, he did auto body repair and painting and garage mechanics. He enjoyed playing the guitar. He was a member of the Mercer Free Methodist Church but has been attending Center Presbyterian Church of New Castle. In addition to his wife, Betty, survivors include one daughter, Amy McCosby and husband, Gerard, of Portersville; three sons, Eric L. Myers and wife, Kim, and Jeffrey J. Myers and wife, Elizabeth, all of Volant, and Todd A. Myers and his fiancée, Pam Seymore, of Yorkhaven, Pa.; one brother, Clarence Myers Jr. of Slippery Rock; and one sister, Patricia Sharrar of Clarion. Eight grandchildren survive: Megan and Jacob Myers, Cameron and Morgan Myers, and Ethan, Bekah, Luke and Sarah McCosby. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and two sisters, Lois Wiles and Debra Oakeson. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Opal Stitt, 75 Opal Stitt, 75, of Scott Township passed away the evening of Nov. 8, 2014, at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born on May 20, 1939, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late G. Lester and Norma E. Patterson Dicks. Opal retired from the Lawrence County Home and previously worked at Nepco and as a security guard at Interforest Co. She was a member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church. Opal also belonged to the PAH Association. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a horse enthusiast. Opal is survived by her children, Norma Jean Jackson of New Castle and Jackie Veon and husband, Rusty, of St. Augustine, Fla.; brothers, Raymond Dicks of Ellwood City, William Dicks of New Castle and Robert Dicks of Portersville; sisters, Mildred Emery and Jean Stewart, both of New Castle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a great-grandson. Florence Allen, 86, of Volant went home to the Lord Sunday, May 17
2015.
She was born April 4, 1929, in Pulaski to the late Samuel Bernard and
Laura Ruth (Miller) Wetzel.
She married William J. Allen on July 26, 1948. They were married for 67
years. Mr. Allen survives at home.
Mrs. Allen belonged to the Church of Christ in New Castle.
She worked as a nurse’s aid and retired after many years of service from
the Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare.
She loved to travel, crochet, bowl and play cards.
Mrs. Allen was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Most
of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, William, she is survived by her daughter,
Laura Jean (David) McConahy of Volant; her son, William S. (Cynthia)
Allen of Volant; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is
also survived by her sister, Donna Jean Buchowski; and her brother,
Robert Dale Wetzel.
She was proceeded in death by her sister, Martha Murincsak; and her
brothers, William, Samuel “Norv,” Harold and James Wetzel.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Smith
Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, at the
funeral home. The Rev. David Howell, pastor of the Church of Christ,
will officiate.
Interment will follow in Rich Hill Cemetery, Volant.

Mrs. Hazel Michael Boyles, 79, of 1824 Eastbrook
Road, died at 4:30 a.m. Aug. 19, 1976, in the Jack Rees Nursing Home, after an
extended illness. She was born in Washington Township, Lawrence County, on
April 13, 1897, to the late William A. and Gertrude Welker Michael. Mrs.
Boyles was a member of Rich Hill United Presbyterian Church and the Woman's
Missionary Society of the church. She is survived by her husband, Howard M.
Boyles, to whom she had been married for 56 years; two sons, Kenneth W. of New
Castle, and Ralph E. of Carpentersville, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Hall,
and three sisters. Friends will be received at the R. Cunningham Funeral
Home, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. The
service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, conducted by the
Rev. Clarence Thayer, former minister of Rich Hill Church, and the Rev. Randy
Ford. Burial will follow the service in Rich Hill United Presbyterian Church

Ralph Charles McConnell, Volant RD 3, Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 88. Mr. McConnell was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Moore's Corners, Slippery Rock, to Benjamin Pearson McConnell and Elizabeth Jane Hilgar McConnell. He was employed for 35 years at Cooper Energy Services Reciprocating Products, Grove City, where he was an electric chrome plater. Mr. McConnell was a member of Rich Hill Presbyterian Church, Volant. His wife of 66 years, the former Bertha Marie Wilson, whom he married Oct. 17, 1936, survives at the residence. He also leaves: a daughter, Shirley Gaylene Hammerschmidt and her husband James, Greenville; a son, Wayne Ralph McConnell and his wife Donna Jean, Hermitage; one sister, Mary Bernice Schrantz, New Castle; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Joyce Darlene Latimer; and two brothers and four sisters. Jeffrey Paul Emery, 46 Jeffrey Paul Emery, 46, of Old Ash
Road, Grove City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at UPMC
Presbyterian in Pittsburgh following a month-long illness.
Jeff was born July 6, 1968, in Grove City, Mercer County, to Samuel
David Emery and Arlene Ann Mickley Emery.
He married Bobbie Jo Deal.
Prior to Jeff’s disability. he worked as a bricklayer in the masonry
business.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mostly spending time with his sons.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Jo of Slippery Rock; his two sons,
Dakota James Emery of Grove City and Kansas Allen Emery of Slippery
Rock; his mother, Arlene M. Emery of Volant; his sister, Alicia Irwin
and her husband, Ted, of Volant; and his brother, Terry L. Emery of
Grove City.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at the
Smith Funeral Home, Village of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Volant.
A memorial service will be observed at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
with the Rev. James Lewis of Butler presiding.
Interment will be in Rich Hill Cemetery, Lawrence County.
Kenneth E. McConnell, 87 Kenneth
E. McConnell, 87, of 3770 State Route 168, Volant, passed away the
morning of Thursday, July 9, 2015, at his home.
Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Washington Township, he was a son of Sherman J.
and Mary McConahy McConnell. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly A. McClelland
McConnell, whom he married March 30, 1951. Because of his love for working the land and working with cattle, horses
and ponies, Ken was a self-employed farmer on Kemland Farms.
He was an honorary member of the Wilmington FFA, member of the
Pennsylvania Farmers Association and member and director of the
Beaver-Lawrence County Holstein Club.
Ken was also a former member of Castle Paws and Taws, the Laurel Travel
Club, and enjoyed his golfers' Monday night dinner group. He served on
the Rich Hill Cemetery Committee from 1965 to the present.
A current member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, he previously served
as a deacon and trustee at Rich Hill Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by a daughter, Jill E.
McConnell of New Wilmington; two sons, Gary (Anna) McConnell and Jeffrey
(Susan) McConnell of Volant; a brother, Harold (Mary) McConnell of
Volant; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie Carter and
Mable Jenkins; and two brothers, Arnold McConnell and Richard
McConnell.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the R.
Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New
Castle.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at the
funeral home with the Rev. Chris Weichman officiating.

Howard M. Boyles, 93, formerly of Eastbrook Road, and a
retired mechanic at the Boyles Coal Co., died on Dec. 3, 1986 at Olivette
Nursing Home of Elgin, Ill., following a long illness. He was born in New
Castle on March 28, 1893 to William B. and Hannah McCormick Boyles. He married
the former Anna Hazel Michael who died in 1976. He was a member of Rich Hill
Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer fireman in Hickory Township for a number
of years. Mr. Boyles is survived by two sons, Kenneth W. Of New Castle and
Ralph E. of Carpentorsville, Ill.,; one brother, Ellis of New Castle; 10
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents, wife, one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Hall and one brother, Norris. Funeral
arrangements will be announced tomorrow by the R. Cunningham Funeral
Home. Burial will be on Saturday at Rich Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.
